The cost is high

The cost is high

The cost is high

Sir Lancelot the perfect knight
had always kept his honour bright
Until he fell for Guinivere
and he was tempted then I fear.

Beyond his powers of control
Endangered his immortal soul.
When they engaged in dalliance.
A sad romance that stood no chance.

For she was married to his lord
and had forsworn her given word
and he betrayed his masters trust
Their only motivation lust

Although King Arthur could forgive
his wayward wife and let her live
Sir Lancelot the King exiled
no longer perfect he'd defiled

his liege lord's honour and his own.
His reputation overthrown.
The perfect knight had proved to be.
Imperfect unfortunately.

So ends my tale I'll say no more.
Once broken you cannot restore
The honour that you had but lost
I wonder was it worth the cost.

So think before you cheat my friends
It is too late to make amends.
When you've destroyed her trust in you.
Although it's sad it's also true.

This was a tale worth telling my friend...loved it!

It reminds me of an old adage, which I paraphrased into one of my poems.

Your life is out before you
Like a field of driven snow
Be carefull how you tread on it
For every mark will show
Once you take a step
There is no turning back
What once was purest white
Is now forever black!
