Sad Sacks

Some folks can’t tell the difference
between real life and the T.V
Their lives are full of false pretence.
The only live vicariously
They can believe soap operas real.
 Convince themselves that they true
They’re so immersed that they can feel
 everything that happens to
The actor they would like to be.
As if it’s happening to them.
They can’t cope with reality
 so they adopt this stratagem.
They watch their T.V constantly
exchange real life for fantasy.

I had a very bizarre roommate just like this, poeticpiers. She woke up at 12:00, watched some taped episodes of her favorite show, then took her nap, to start all over again. She could bear silence, and the lives of the tv characters became more real to her than her own. I felt really sorry for her, knowing there was nothing i could do to make her see. It's not really living is it?

Thanks for this lovely piece. I've been enjoying some spirited banter on a friend's site, and figured I just *had* to see both sides of the free-form vs rhyme issue. Glutton for punishment who the hell knows? For what it's worth, I think both of your work is very good. However, I am just a silly untrained dilettante myself! Have a great night- glad I stopped by!
