Sunday Moring Pests.

A Poem by Poeticpiers

 Sunday morning pests

Two thousand years or so ago.
Three criminals were crucified.
And yet today we claim we know
One was the son of God and died.

We cannot prove that this true
 there’s very little evidence.
But we are still expected to
 give these stories full credence.

By word of mouth they were passed down.
Translated from old Aramaic.
They came from sources now unknown
Could they free from all mistake.

When they written finally
Although no doubt with good intent
Were they translated properly
or were they changed by accident.

By accident or purposely.
Perhaps a mixture of the two
To claim divine authority.
To me it simply will not do.

To tell me that I must believe.
What may or may not be true.
Is something which you won’t achieve.
There’s very little you can do.

I can’t accept on faith alone.
Until you can prove the things you teach.
are truths that stand up on their own.
Consider me beyond your reach.

Christianity could very easily
have flourished for a while and died.
It owes its popularity.
To information men supplied.

Who had some private axe to grind
Men who stood to benefit.
Perhaps you think I am unkind
that I can’t prove a word of it

I can’t deny that it is so
I don’t expect you to agree.
But I believe you do not know
The whole truth any more than me.

I can respect what that you believe
I do not find it difficult
But I’m not willing to receive
Indoctrination by some cult.

So please don’t knock upon my door
Attempting to convert me to your view
Because I’ve heard it all before
and I’ve got better things to do.

Than listen to the likes of you.

AWESOME TOTALLY AWESOME I cannot agree more .And I argue theology with my brother all the time Last night i asked .Has god always been .?To which he said yes.Well if the holy ghost told Mary she was pregnant .And the triinity are true. Then jesus also always existed. And for Jesus to come to Earth He would have to have impregnated his own mother .That one set him aback Lol

Firstly, you've really done the business with the technicalities - you always do.

Secondly, Sunday's a great day for people who peddle their strongly held convictions ..

As to your poem's content: as children most are taught about faith, encouraged into a faith, expected to believe, to follow parental example, etc. We can do that - I did, just as my brothers and sisters did. However, we were also encouraged, urged, to discover things for ourselves .. about anything and everything.

In the process, I read about the translations done of the scriptures over centuries; learned about the translations of translations, and, that like the game of Chinese whispers mistakes - misinterpretations have been proved because of the many languages as well as time passed during the processes

You've possibly been told, sincerely, that the reality for many is that there is Something wonderful, greater than Man - (after all the latter's nothing to write scriptures about) and that's true. Others will see the creation as being a great mystery - of, from within, the cosmos, science et al .. We have to make choices or not.

Tho I truly do understand your probable annoyance, sometimes discussion with questions and answers exchanged without prejudice or bias is enriching ... however enforced attempts for conversion is not.

Sorry, sorry, sorry ... gone on far too much - let's say your fine poem nudges thought.

Well.. I can relate to this.. no religion in my eyes should be selling their beliefs door to door.. and pushing on top of that as well. Religion and spirituality is something we all have our own individual journeys to find or leave behind..

This is a stuggle that I think will ensue for years to come.. as our freedoms do come with the ability of those to knock.. and our choice to shut or open that door. We are all human.. religion does not make one better than the other.. here you demonstrate your choice.. which is your right to do so. Many struggle with religion and science.. but the one thing people really need to do is respect the full spectrum of all walks of life. There are many that agree with your writing.. myself I would be one of those mixed up people.. torn by science and religion.. and I am okay with it! Spirituality is a daily fight.. with equal arguments on both sides... I respect your point of view and it's brilliantly written out.

It is amazing this piece. So many religions try so hard to spread the way they believe and truth is everyone does have a choice. The choice to believe or not. It is in my opinion a path that most people have to journey on themselves. Very well written piece.
