Unwarranted disrespect

Unwarranted disrespect

The bards of old are long forgotten
How did this happen to men
 Greatly respected and when.
Did they begin to lose their high place?
I find it hard to bear.
Men who we should revere.
Have been relegated to the past.
Discarded overcast
By poets whose words will not last.

Englyn Penfyr form.

This is an old Welsh Bardic form that I've read about, but never actually seen. It was only recently that I discovered that the main difference between English and Welsh poetry was the fact that the English count stresses, whereas the Welsh count syllables. As I have always counted syllables, instinctively, I find it fascinating, especially as I had a Welsh mother. Perhaps it's in the blood after all ?

I love the message of this poem. I have not yet studied this new (to me) form, so I can't comment on how well you conformed to it.

One negative, the punctuation in this poem is very confusing to me.
I would place a period at the end of line 1
I would remove the period after line 3
Lines 6 and 7 seem to me to need no punctuation
In line 8, I would put a comma after discarded.

Of course, punctuation and capitalization are matters of considerable controversy among poets. Please take my suggestions in the spirit given... that of admiration for the effort.
