Illogicality

Illogicality

Illogicality.

In the beginning was the WORD.
So we are told but not who spoke
Which seems to me to be absurd.
I m forced to treat it as a joke.

No one to speak no one to hear
Which seems to be improbable
and fails to satisfy I fear.
I find it to be impossible

I would prefer a logical
 explanation, I can
believe just might be true
But fairy stories will not do.

I’m sceptical, I need proof.
I can’t accept on faith alone
That what we’re taught must be the truth.
I think the truth remains unknown.

I can respect what you believe
I only ask you do the same.
Because I happen to perceive
A different start to the game.

Who was it spoke from whence came he?
Who created the creator.
Was he in fact pure energy?
that sprang from some stars molten core.

I only know I do not know
and I refuse to speculate.
About what happened long ago.
I am content to indicate.

I don’t believe, don’t even try.
I cite the lack of evidence.
The theory seems to fly
Into the face of common sense.

Although I do not claim to be
 anything but a simple man
I must reject entirely
The claims of those who say they can.

Teach the truth because they know.
It must remain a mystery
They have no evidence to show
They have divine authority.

I’m sceptical and cynical.
I have a brain that I can use.
I am convinced it’s logical
to be determined to refuse

to accept what I was taught.
By those who know no more than me.
Although my teachers think I ought.
I will rebel instinctively

There are only various forms of truth. I like you sir, you are a smart man as i can tell. I beleive to understand something you must expierience it first hand , to understand something you must be willing to disassemble and assemble the pieces again and again. there are no facts, there are just interpretations. well done :) thank you.

As an atheist/existentialist of sorts I agree with this prognosis of 'faith' and I sense throughout that you share a similar resentment to myself in that even if there is a Creator, then who the hell are these humans to claim to speak for 'Him'? To date they have used 'the word' to suppress intellect and discovery, (in the interests of maintaining their power and influence over 'truth'), instigate wars of attrition, conquest and plunder and ignite witch hunts against 'heathens and heretics' that dared question their authority... and possibly even human evolution as a consequence. I mean; how much further may we have been without science and reason being suppressed by Aquinas's' 'amended' Aristotelian philosophy throughout the dark ages? I often wonder how much aptitude, skill and genius has perished in war and faded to obscurity in low class/caste status and as it was the church that re-introduced the separation of learned clergy from the ignorant commoners then I think they need to take some of the blame.
I read in a scientific article recently that scientists avoid taking on the task of either proving or disproving the existence of God in fear of losing funding from what was described as 'an uneducated public' that are swayed by moral edicts advocated through doctrine. In short it said that the taxpayer would protest if they diminished blind faith and even proposing such a notion would be seen as a lack of faith.
The truth may be that most people simply don't want to know... it may be too difficult to think beyond their comfort and convenient lifestyles perhaps? That's getting quite judgemental actually, so I'll stop it there. Each to their own eh? I enjoyed this poem, thought provoking and, as usual, satisfyingly so,
Take care, spence

Great, keep your soul's rights to struggle for truth, with truth.
Only God can show you the way, if He should will to. Just try not to do wickedly.
I am a saved reproved sinful man, my brother saved me - Jesus,

I used to allow my mind to ramble like that. A bout of meningitis a few years back, and a stay in respiratory isolation cured me of that. Facing probable death, I was kind of forced to realize that in the big scheme of things it really doesn't really matter what I figure out with my intellect. How do the many species of birds know how to build fairly intricate nests without having been taught? I know it's simple, but much deeper if you ponder it. After fledglings flee, they instinctively "know" (great word huh?) how to do it. Did you know that Darwin's biggest stumbling block was the human eye? He couldn't figure out how even millions of years could manufacture enough genetic mutations and intricate details to make such a complex organ with a single purpose of sight. I guess we don't see the forest for the trees sometimes. You are a gifted writer, but as for having made your point-not quite. For myself, it is only logical to see design in anything intricate. Like your poem. To me it's illogical to think that the letters miraculously fell into place, I logically assume you placed them there. If it takes faith to believe that, then I am one of those radical crazy ones.
