The truth might prove inconvenient.

The truth might prove inconvenient.

A Poem by Poeticpiers
"

narrative verse in rhyming quatrains

"

The truth might prove inconvenient.

It may be one day we will know

What really happened long ago?

Some one will build a new machine

through which we can review the scene.

Of some historical event..

The scenes that I would like to see

 The garden of Gethsemane

 and that day on Calvary

I do not think they would agree

with the history I was taught.

It would support or undermine

 belief that Jesus was divine.

I’m certain that the powers that be.

Would never let the public see.

The truth it simply would not do.

Unless of course the tales proved true.

They would exert their powers to

Maintain the reigning status quo.

They would not dare to let us know

we had been conned for centuries.

It might be just a foolish dream

 a silly non existent scheme

to form the basis for a book.

A plan at which I’d like to look.

It could become reality.

A scientific fantasy

 might lead on to technology.

Which would enable us to see

The faults and flaws of history.

For which there is no precedent.

For truth’s a rare commodity

as long as no one can agree.

On what is or is not true

 there’s very little needed to

control the publics point of view

Divide and conquer is the rule

It’s always been a useful tool.

We dare not be too lenient

If the truth’s  inconvenient

Far better to maintain the lie.

I am reminded of a passage from Kahlil Gibran: "Once, every hundred years, Jesus of Nazareth meets with the Jesus of Chritianity, in a secluded garden in the hills of Lebanon. They walk togather, and talk for a long time- and at the the end of the conversation, Jesus of Nazareath goes away, saying to Jesus of Christianity, 'My friend, I fear we will never, ever agree'"
