I do not claim to prophesy:But

I do not claim to prophesy:But

A Poem by Poeticpiers
"

sonnet variant in tetrameter

"

I do not claim to prophesy: but

I am afraid that what I see

in my nightmares may come to be

A world that’s empty desolate

Destroyed by human greed and hate.

I’m half convinced it could come true.

Unless we learn to change our view

I pray that time will prove me wrong

and men realise we all belong.

To one extended family

 and live together peace fully.

I watch the newscasts hopefully

but find that they dishearten me.

It’s possible my fantasy

will come to be reality.

Universal peace is impossible, and even if it WERE possibly, it is impractical and would still lead to our inevitable end. War keeps our population under control, if war was abolished we would have less casualties as a result, resulting in overpopulation of certain areas, these people would then try to overtake other areas, thus resulting in a. war, or b. an influx of strangers and eventually famine.

While world peace is a lovely idea on paper, its utopian and impossible:( and that makes me even more sad than the truths so eleoquently expressed in this little gem. I agree, wholeheartedly, with every word said, and that makes it even more sorrowful and tragic. Damned if we do, damned if we dont:( its the human condition... what a sad group we are:(
