It makes no sense

It makes no sense

A Poem by Poeticpiers
"

Sonnet in tetrameter

"

It makes no sense

A dog goes mad and is destroyed

A danger to society.

Why do we strive to avoid

the use of the death penalty.

Why do we pay to keep alive

a madman that we cannot cure.

It seems unjust he should survive

His victims didn’t that’s for sure

There is no cure for his disease

No chance at all he will be freed,

no way that he can earn release

He should be put down humanely

Why should he live in luxury?

with all mod cons provided free.

Now this is an interesting and provocative subject.. very well-written and one that I feel is split in society. Some are for .. some against capital punishment and the death sentence.

Here in Canada it does not exist.. and the most notorious criminals are served life sentences BUT usually highly guarded, educated and spoiled (does this seem right or fair?).. it's a waste of taxpayers money and while I am not for "an eye for an eye" but where is the fair line for everyone who pays? So many hard working people do not get their education paid for .. they have to work for it.. this sends the wrong message out. Much needed writing I think and something to think about!!!

I like the unique flow of the poetry. It has a certain bit of a punch. The thought of paying to keep the person alive never crossed my mind. I usually just thought of keeping them in jail to live out their lives to think of what they did. Never to be let out again, but then again there should be no mercy for a child molester or something should there? This poem made me think. It was a pleasure to read it.

A most compelling write. I agree with what you say here in it. Perfect rhyme and flow.

so powerful, so true, i loved the comparison between the dog and a mad man! we put down a mad dog, ending it's suffering, yet we imprison a madman to live longer, suffer longer and they call that humane!!

Powerfully expressed, this is an issue that deserves a second look. Seems so tragic that families are torn apart with their loss and get little resolution from something so horrid. Thank you for this poignant write!
