I can but try for M lady Emma

I can but try for M lady Emma

A Poem by Poeticpiers
"

Petrarchan sonnet in tetrameter

"

I can but try.

Why dost thou weep, why dost thou sigh.

Why dost thou let thy tears downflow

Why hath thy spirit sunk so low.

I ask but thou dost not reply.

I cannot help although I try

What hidest thou,  I may not know

What trial dost thou undergo.

Mayhap thou thinkest that I pry.

It makes me sad to see thee weep

I only wish to comfort thee.

Thy secrets are thine own to keep.

If thou canst not place trust in me.

It seems thy hurt has cut too deep.

I must accept reluctantly.
