Ruled by the moon

tetrameter sonnet

Ruled by the moon.

 

Incoming waves explore the shore

as if intending to remain

Just as they did the day before.

 But soon they will retreat again.

Twice each day they will attack.

 Assisted by the flowing tide

 and twice each day they are forced back

 As the high tide ebbs slow away.

The struggle rages to and fro

 as it has done since time began.
Dependent on the ebb and flow

of tides beyond control of man.

The land resists adamantly

 daily incursions by the sea.
