Stranger than fiction

Stranger than fiction

Stranger than fiction.

A miner toiling underground

Was ill prepared for what he found.

Though ignorant he was no fool

To him it seemed to be a tool.

It roused his curiosity

because he knew it should not be

Possible for him to find

 an artefact of any kind.

The fact remains that he has found

 an article deep under ground

Theoretically

 an impossibility.

The experts try but can’t deny

Its actual reality.

It’s made of metal and machined

or so it seems when it was cleaned.

The experts say it cannot be.

But it is there for all to see.

The artefact is tucked away

to never see the light of day.

Because the experts can’t explain

They have to make it very plain.

It will get no publicity

 and be forgotten quietly.

Until some day it comes to light

As indeed it well might

When it is discovered once again

by some curator who will gain.

Not only notoriety

but instant popularity.

For his exposure of the plan

by the experts who to a man.

Had hoped the day would never dawn

When they must pass opinion.

Upon this strange anomaly

An artefact that should not be.

This is one of those riveting works that leave us asking for more when we reach the end....the concept is interesting, and the rhythm is fun to read. Thoroughly enjoyable!

An intriguing mystery which has some philosophical bearing on the certainty of science. A certainty which is misled, since Man's existence is based on uncertainty, and he searches for certain concrete reason in order to justify his meaning. It reminds me somewhat of the obelisk in 2001: A Space Odyssey. It has always been there but as no-one can explain it, it is ignored and kept hidden. It undermines the whole meaning and reasoning of human existence. The fact that this object (in the poem) is kept undisclosed adds to this 'unknown' quality, and increases the power of its meaning.
Well-written, easy on the tongue, and with a theme which allows the mind to play and imagine for itself where the mystery leads.

Great things found are left for time and men of science to understand. We live in a world where great mystery may lay in dormant for years. I like the story and the ending. I roamed South and Central American. I saw great buildings and statues hidden in deep forest made 5,000 years ago. This world had great mysteries that few will ever understand. Common man appreciate and knows great things when they come upon them. A excellent poem.
