A night to remember for M' lady PoppyA Poem by PoeticpiersStory poemA night to remember. The sudden silence frightens me I am at home I live alone. Concentrating intently I think I hear a muffled moan. I know there’s no one here but me Because I choose to live on my own. There is no one, there could not be Again I hear a muffled moan.
I use candles when the day is done Which satisfies me normally. Though not when I can hear a moan. I’m absolutely petrified more scared than I have ever known. I do not know what lurks outside. I hear another softer moan. I won’t surrender to my fear. I’ve always managed on my own I strain my ears but cannot hear the sound of that despairing moan. I throw the front door open wide The sight would melt a heart of stone. A wounded cat lies just outside. It lacks sufficient strength to moan. Caught in a snare apparently From which it can’t escape alone. I free the wire carefully. The poor thing has good cause to moan. No other sign of injury bar for a leg cut to the bone. I clean and dress it carefully. Its trial purr becomes a moan. Now it is sleeping peacefully I have done all that could be done. I’ll have to nurse it carefully until the wound heals on its own. It made a good recovery. Though I no longer live alone It seems it has adopted me I have a cat to call my own. Monday, 14 June 2010 http:// blog.myspace.com/poeticpiers © 2010 Poeticpiers |
