A feeling of uneasiness.

A feeling of uneasiness.

A Poem by Poeticpiers
"

Story poem.

"

A feeling of uneasiness.

I hear a church bell being tolled.

Far echoing across the Wold.

It signifies someone had died.

A local man most probably

somebody quite unknown to me.

It makes me feel somewhere inside.

As if I have lost somebody.

An old friend who was close to me.

My friends are scattered far and wide.

It is a possibility.

Though I ‘m not sure who it might be.

My sense of loss will not subside.

I speed my pace unconsciously

Some inner voice advising me.

That I will not be satisfied

Until I’ve heard the local news

The Gossip in the pub I use.

Someone must know the man who died.

I find its someone I don’t know.

Who heard the call and had to go.

That final call can’t be denied.

I drink my pint and contemplate

 upon the vagaries of fate.

I cast my cloak of doubt aside.

I’m satisfied now that I know

and I can let my worries go.

The feelings that I sought to hide.

That sprang unbidden to my mind

When the tolling bell defined.

Someone somewhere had just died.

My turn will come I have no doubt

Someone will hear the bell ring out.

Though I must go the world abides.

I like this poem. It has rhythm. It's hard to come to terms with mortality and lose someone close, but as they say, death is only a transition to a new life in the spirit. Everyone must answer to the call.
