A Town Window

A Town Window

A Poem by Poeticpiers
"

Glosa a tribute to John Drinkwater

"

A town window

A glosa in tribute

John Drinkwater 1882-1937

Beyond my window in the night

Is but a drab inglorious street.

Yet there the frost and clean starlight.

As over Warwick woods as sweet.

Beyond my window in the night.

Grimy streets are all I see.

No beauty there for my delight.

Nor do I think there’ll ever be.

Is but a drab inglorious street

with litter scattered everywhere

crushed by the tread of passing feet

of city folk who do not care.

As over Warwick Woods as sweet

 breezes that softly blow

Far from this wretched city street.

There in the world I used to know.
