Forgotten FamilyA Poem by PoeticpiersStory poemForgotten Family. Against the sky in silhouette. In the far distance I can see a massive pile of masonry. A sight which I cannot forget. Magnificent when it was new. A symbol then of power and pride It dominates the countryside as it was always meant to do. Its stark outlines now softened by the slow passage of centuries. The most subtle of enemies no man made structure can defy. In ruins now unoccupied except for vagrants passing through. Who sometimes stay a week or two when the weather’s bad out side. Now are the mighty fallen low. Although they ruled in days gone by A silhouette against the sky is all they left behind to show. No one recalls their family name Erased from human memory. Although students of history consider it to be a shame. The castle stands for all to see Though written records don’t exist The local legends still insist The family’s down fall set them free. I do not know if it is true there is no way to verify Who built the castle when or why Though scholars are still trying to.
