Perhaos one day.A Poem by Poeticpiersstory poem.Perhaps one day. Deep underground pot holers found. A temple to some deity Although the darkness was profound. There was sufficient light to see. An eerie phosphorescent glow Which seemed some how to emanate from the solid floor below. Which gave them cause to stop and wait. To their great surprise they saw. A grotesque carven effigy. Which filled them with a sense of awe. So they proceeded cautiously. The walls bore runes they could not read. Still legible in black and red. A sacred place they all agreed. The handiwork of men long dead. What purpose had this cavern served to their forbears so long ago. Which by some miracle preserved. There was no way that they could know. The photographed all they had seen. To convince sceptics they had been. Discoverers of an unknown creed Confronted by the evidence the leading experts soon agreed. That though the runes made little sense. That given time they might succeed. In finding some philologist .An expert in his chosen field To whom the ancient script would yield. The key to solve the mystery. Pot holers found by accident. A piece of ancient history. At least that much was evident. But sadly it was not to be. The rock collapsed and barred the way To that well hidden sanctuary. The photographs are on display. World wide in universities available to every one. Who seeks for that elusive key. But up to date no has done. Perhaps we are not meant to know We cannot solve the mystery what happened here so long ago Lost in the mists of history. Only the photographs remain. There is no other evidence. One day perhaps some students brain Will understand their relevance. The pot holers earned instant fame.
