A new beginning.

A new beginning.

A Poem by Poeticpiers
"

Story poem.

"

A new beginning.

Old and alone but still content.

She has so many memories

of a happy lifetime spent

in caring for her family.

This is the house where she was born.

The family home for centuries.

A formal garden mostly lawn

where children played quite happily.

Neglected now and overgrown,

She can't afford a gardener.

How quickly past the years have flown.

Now that there’s no one left but her.

She has outlived her family

and all her friends are long since dead.

She must accept reality

and sell the house where she was bred.

It’s far too big for her alone.

This house deserves a family.

Though she will leave reluctantly

She will still have her memories..

The time has come to make a change.

She is quite sure she’ll manage that

Although at first it was quite strange.

She’s moved into a sheltered flat.

She settled in quite easily

and soon began to feel at home

She still enjoys her memories

Though they come and go at random.

She may be old and still alone.

Now she has access to company.

A luxury she has not known

 for many years apparently.

This is the time to make new friends

 and practice being neighbourly.

And this where my story ends.

A story which ends happily.

I love this! Maybe because of my age; maybe because of my parents who are both 87. There is so much wisdom and understanding related in these words. Wonderfully done!

this poem is so sad, so true and so hopeful at the same time! I really like your structure, and the message you convey!

Times change but when we hold the past dear in our heart we can take it with us where ever we go. We can still cherish that that was and still move forward on to new adventures.

Oh this is sadly beautiful, so very true. Have known quite a few elderly folk who've had to make changes in their lives, not been able to live alone any more. Such an upheaval and a challenge to their pride what's more.

Your words are gently put, and with such respect and hope.
