You can’t believe your eyes 2011

The countless thousand points of light.

Which decorate the firmament

Are only visible by night

By long established precedent..

We have the opportunity

 to study them though distantly.

Each one of them another sun

Although we know that some have gone.

Some of the stars we think we see

have supernovaed long ago.

We know this theoretically

Which one they are we do not know.

Existing as pale memories

of the suns they used to be.

As I read this my friend I was reminded of many nights in the desert during Gulf War One '90/'91. When there are no street lights or other obstructions the sky is as you describe it here. I've never seen the night sky as clearly as then.
We would occasionally see a flashing red light ... but as it crossed from Saudi into Iraq it extinquished ... because it was on an allied bomber.
Superb observation and imagery within this piece.

You write like a time lord! What a symphony of words and wisdom, but not unusually so and, what's more you've used meter with care - not a simple feat for the likes of me. If I read each and every one of your poems, 'would come away a better poet. ' Existing as pale memories ~~ of the suns they used to be.

Apologies for not calling in for ages and sincere but belated wishes for Easter and all else.

There is always more than meets the eye when it comes to this universe. Your words can raise many questions.
