Designed to last.

The long case clock stands in the hall.

Recording time remorselessly.

In winter summer spring and fall.

The seasons cycle ceaselessly.

Recording time remorselessly,

counting the seconds as they pass.

It ticks away contentedly.

Its workings made of polished brass.

Counting the seconds as they pass.

An engineering masterpiece

Is workings made of polished brass.

Although its chimes disturb the peace.

An engineering masterpiece.

Its long case created carefully

By long dead hands that found release

from labouring ;Death set them free.

In winter summer spring and fall

the long case clock stands in the hall.

I love the way you sum up the clocks working and allow for the human side of the works. It is very well thought out and a wonderful image. The closing is something all us want-to-be poets should take to heart. Grat work!
