Who cares what critics say

Who cares what critics say

Who cares what critics say.

Poets must experiment.

To how the world what they can do.

There is nothing to prevent

Them from adapting classic forms

If they’re feeling confident

to challenge  currently accepted styles.

The classic poets of the past

created new forms meant to last

WE find their work in archived files

 almost as if by accident

Our efforts sometimes create storms

 from critics who are discontent

when reading our adapted forms

Which leaves me feeling impenitent.

Edit note:

Line 3-To "show" the world what they can do.

I don't believe that I have ever seen the word "impenitent" used so eloquently, as in a poem. However, it was nicely placed here. This was a wonderful write, overall. In reviewing on this site, I try to see the poetry behind the words and not so much the words. Some of the worst constructed forms used have the most beautiful poetry hiding within. Great write!

If you write in rhyme or free verse... Classic style or new world it don't matter... It is bout the thoughts and feelings. You can't please everyone so write from the heart.

It is hard to understand the words of a critic when inside we ourselves are our toughist critics to start with. You are right about someone else reading and commenting on our work, I feel if they really do not like it then don't read it. Like mine nobody reads me.

You and me both my dear friend. You have pointed out what was obvious to me and I applaud you for it. I believe that writing is such a personal craft and then we put it out for public scrutiny where at times we are put down, but post it we do. I like any genre when it comes to writing, but I do not like anything too obscure. If readers cannot understand what has been written then the writer may just as well say nothing...this is not the case here.
Thank you for posting this xxx
