Force of circumstance

Force of circumstance

A Poem by Poeticpiers
"

sonnet in tetrameter

"

Force of circumstances.

The Marquis and the Marchioness

Whose portraits hang in the Great Hall.

They had them painted to impress.

Though I am not impressed at all.

I have no doubt that they were charmed

But cannot share that sentiment.

They look as if they’ve been embalmed

and then propped up as ornaments.

The Marquis and the Marchioness.

Were fashion leaders in their day.

Although today we choose to dress

 in a very different way.

Had I lived then most probably.

I would have worn such finery.
