Now are the might fallenA Poem by PoeticpiersStory poem in rhyming quatrainsNow are the mighty fallen. Brass trumpets blare triumphantly. Competing with the kettle drums. The crowds proclaiming loyalty. To bid their new ruler welcome. But that was many years ago. The scene is different today. That is because the people know there has to be a better way. They are down trodden and oppressed. The few rule the majority and swiftly act to quell protest. With unashamed brutality. Dictators try to rule by force. They are too blind to recognise although they kill without remorse A generation will arise. Prepared to fight for liberty The numbers growing day by day. You can’t rely on loyalty From men prepared to fight for pay.. The peoples will is paramount. As you will find to your dismay When they call you to account. There is no doubt that you will pay. The penalties decided by an international court of law Incarceration 'til you die The verdict we are looking for.
Of crimes attributed to you When you were the President Your protestations don’t ring true. Accumulated evidence. Prove beyond all doubt your guilt. You very presence an offence. Because of all the blood you spilt. Though some believe that you should die. I much prefer imprisonment To watch long years crawl slowly by a longer lasting punishment. Execution is far too quick We need to see you suffering Whilst you grow old and weak and sick. No longer treated like a king.
