What dreams may come.A Poem by PoeticpiersLaLibertas formatWhat dreams may come. LaLibertas. I am fatigued yet fear to sleep Ghosts of past sins are haunting me. My conscience pricking constantly for promises I did not keep. I freely lied to satisfy some urgent need, some appetite. I acted purely selfishly. Impelled by my own selfish greed. The time has come to foot the bill. There’s no escape I have to pay. Peaceful sleep’s forbidden me. False promises I failed to keep. Resurface when fall asleep Their purpose is to punish me A punishment I well deserve. For selfishness I can’t deny. There is no doubt about my guilt. I can’t claim to be innocent I offer this in self defence I was too young to understand. Eventually I’d have to pay for telling lies to get my way.
