a mystery poet rediscovered

My friend Emily said he came out of nowhere,

a poet who rose from the audience like a stray cat.

The first thing she said was that he was handsome,

a tall man with dark features and a five o’clock 

shadow. She said he had a poem written and prepared

as did all the other poets who were there to read. 

But after reading the first verse, the poet nobody knew 

or even heard of, did something strange. He stopped.

Tore up the poem, and said: I have something else

I’d like to share with you. And for the next ten minutes

my friend said half the room swooned, while the other

half cried. Then he thanked everyone, and left.

A few days ago I discovered that this poet was a part of this community, but just like in Emily’s story he disappeared before anyone could really get to know him.
