I and the Pain

I promise, this is the last depressing one for a while. The next few are lighter...and newer. This one is several weeks old (but still written in 2012)

My heart cries out in pain,
But no one hears it
My own ears are deaf to the wailing,
for inaudibility brings numbness

I must ignore this pain
For I cannot afford to feel it
My duty is to others,
It would be selfish to serve myself

I must be strengthened by the pain,
I feel what others feel
If I cannot withstand it
Who can?

I will be alone with my pain,
The Lord helping me survive it
friends know of my sorrow,
But they cannot relieve it

Pain is my burden to bear
I bear it so others do not
I fool myself
But pain messes with the mind....    i am the pain
