Fight or Flight Plight

Fight or Flight Plight

A Poem by poison&kerosene

Trepidation floods my veins as

burning apprehension pumps to my brain
leading the cataract to my heart

Timid footsteps echo through my being

In its path awakens hyperarousal,
a gift from my ancestors

I feel hauntingly small
My instincts lay tangled
Who do I trust if not myself?

I stand poised at opportunity's door
Feet planted firmly with resolve
As the hammering in my chest reaches a crescendo,

I pray my quivering frame will not betray me
