I Am A Human Being

I Am A Human Being

A Poem by Poetic Nuance

I am a human being,
Mostly patchwork though,
Even the hurried repairs are coming undone,
Snazzy threads covering up the putrescence within.

The cynical blood that flows unfettered,
Spreads decay to a festering heart,
Rare moments of beauty evoke only a faint beat,
Skipping one, is a thing of the past.

Everyday I step into humanity,
Gagging at the overwhelming stench,
But in false bravado, shore up quickly,
Confident, that my own stink is hidden safely.

Numbed in emotion, blind to all feelings,
I am the snowman people play with in the cold,
Even the fire in my mind cannot cause a thaw,
Like a prize horse running with blinkers, no warmth to show.

But in the evening as I remove my mask,
And stare at the rotting image in front,
The searing tears help remind,
Passing for a human being, feigning life, already dead.
