vapors

A Poem by rt farris
"

real wealth, we mostly just get a whiff of it

"
the comfortable
middle-class where
more than is needed
becomes the object of desire
the achievement that's
revered

the brass ring
that lures a hungry
world to american
shores

yet
as we've come to know
and ignore
over and over again
the comfort seal
is unreal
more like a bad deal

it's a mirage
in red ink
a fantasy that can
vanish
with the last paycheck

yet there are those
in privileged places
who sit atop real
wealth

but they are few
and far between
and
they intend to
keep it that
way

. i agree ... this is a brilliant piece ... it reveals the discrimination that exists and is being perpetuated ... and yes ... "they intend to keep it that way" ...
