I was quite full of myself.

Had swallowed a lot over the years.

In fact, the only thing I had left was my pride and they took that too.

But it was OK inasmuch as

dignity was only weighing me down anyway ...

Pete, the short and powerful poems of yours are sure to make the readers ponder. Not that the long ones don't..lol! But the impact you create with very few lines is something I love.

The visual certainly lured the reader.. fantastic it is, too. Leads superbly to that brief, somewhat tongue in cheek, beautifully laid poem.. such a clever, witty last line!
