what do you say

what do you hear

is it inside of your soul or ringing in your ear

do you take off your shoes

do you sing him the blues

do you ask nicely or make demands

do you fold your hands

are you down upon your knees

do you even bother to say, "please"

are you addressing a peer or the boss

is it the one hanging on a cross

when your prayers are answered are you awed

do you even bother to rise up and applaud

is the conversation by way of tin cans with string

after all, he is a king

do you think its a fraud

talking to god

Nicely rhymed meditation on the nature of prayer. The great German mystic Meister Eckhart said that if you could say only one prayer in your life, a simple word of thanks would be sufficient.
