Verity

Verity

A Poem by Pete
"

It takes two to speak the truth: one to speak, and another to hear. - Thoreau

"
TOPIC: Truths without the Truth

it doesn't have to squint, it can always see
it's definitive, not maybe
it isn't a new mandate, it's an old decree
we each own a piece of it in that it can be whatever we believe it to be

it isn't all that it's cracked up to be
it can't lie, hide or flee
it's always on a spending spree
it holds the golden key

it never needs straightening but can be bent like a trick knee
you can steep in it like a fine tea
it can liberate and set you free
it's everywhere, following me

after all

it's verity

As the man said, it will set you free. This work includes that, plus a lot of other things about truth. It's definitive, no maybes about it. It is what it is. Liked especially the qualifier that it can be bent. Very appropriate for this political season. But as the poem also states, it's everywhere. You just have to be open to it to recognize it.

Past few years have shown us how verity can be distorted beyond recognition & how it feels to watch people swear by their version of it, even if it means destroying the fabric of our association. "Being right" has become the new holy righteousness. Compromise & understanding are banned. Remember when we all defined the world with more-or-less similar verity? Such that it was something fairly well-established among all, even when disagreeing? Now all bets are off & I feel the sarcasm in your message -- the very veracity of verity has been hopelessly violated (((HUGS))) Fondly, Margie
