On the Lam

On the Lam

I live in the present. I only remember the past, and anticipate the future. - Thoreau

wipe the tears from my temulent, overcast eyes
the ones hidden behind this hackneyed disguise
step with me as we run and break free
embarking on a wanton living spree
barefoot and sublimate, as we give mortality the third degree

take my hand
don't hold it too tight
grasp it just right
as we journey into the brumous night

i promise
everything will be alright
as our souls discern divinity in a fluent osculation
and our truths disembark at liberation's railway station

there has to be something better than this
we'll find it where night and day's lips meet
our own getaway of sacred bliss
in a perennial kiss

I love your reckless fearless romp thru life. This might be my favorite line of the month: "embarking on a wanton living spree" . . . this is the essence I often try to convey in my own poetry . . . we bog ourselves down allowing the media to mainline oppressive depressive bullshit into our brains on a daily basis. Why give politicians & news reporters to incite how we feel & therefore how our lives unfold. This poem makes me livid with all those who never consider living this way! I used to feel like an outcast, but then gradually over 10 years in the wilderness, I started seeing EVERYONE ELSE as the outcasts! (((HUGS))) Fondly, Margie

Freedom of speech has its pitfalls especially with easy access to news and all that media rubbish. I like the days where you watched TV or listened to the radio for news it was more refined, not in your face and not beyond saturation point. Nice write Pete, liked the structure and format and of course Steely Dan my favourite band.
