Verse 1 could be interpreted as differing attitudes toward death. You can accept it and be at peace, or struggle against it, in which case it's going to get you anyway, and probably more painfully. The last three lines seem to be a caveat, basically stating you have a choice. The last line links the pandemic to the theme.

wow, nice - you got it all with a keen understanding. wasn't sure if folks would get it. actually,.. read morewow, nice - you got it all with a keen understanding. wasn't sure if folks would get it. actually, i started out wanting to say that if we go against conventionality we'll be forced down an unwanted path or we'll get run over if we go against it - either way, a sort of catch-22.
is it better to die physically with your principles and beliefs in tact or die inside by not living them and living what someone else forces upon you? sort of like having to take a seat in a living hell or holding out for something better in a pergatory. different interpretations possible but i like your's. thanks j. the b. happy thanksgiving ... :)
I find it interesting that many write about death, especially older poets at the cafe. After so much pondering of death, I would imagine such poets to be a little resistant to the actual arrival. After so much pre-imagining, death is bound to strike one as too different than expected & possibly to be rejected. I love your phrase: "one-way mask" -- reminds of how it feels when I read all that so many people write about death. I can't understand what all the fuss is about & their words feel like a one-way mask to me (((HUGS))) Fondly, Margie

I love reading, writing, music, nature, God and feeling emotion, not necessarily in that order. To me, these things go hand in hand. My favorite writer is Henry David Thoreau. I think he was a geni.. more..
