Here's the way I see it. Our leaders & the media shout at us to "focus on this" or "focus on that" (trivialities = the musket shot in your poem) . . . so we might not notice all the lonely old people falling in forest from covid deaths. A stunning management failure that nobody says much about and the leadership of this country has been completely unplugged from the struggle for months, furthering their own ends. Personally, unless I get hit, I couldn't care less about gunshots that basically represent mankind's stupidity
But those trees, which grow to fall to rot to grow again, do something extremely important and I think the peopled chainsaws that keep cutting them down do a hell of a lot more sinful damage than any narcissistic human gunshots will ever do
And so say all of us
or perhaps just some of us
or possibly just me!

i'm a tree hugger. the only tree i will cut down or cut up is a dead one. how wonderful to have a big yard such as you say. used to have one like that myself. i have no use for guns and lament that they were ever invented ... :)
