The opening of your poem reminds me how my miserly dad hated all that garbage installed on cars . . . he claimed it was intended to yoke us to paying garage prices rather than doing one's own repairs cheaply. I live in a rustic cabin with absolutely no niceties, so even if I could afford A/C, it wouldn't do a bit of good in this non-insulated hovel. But I don't have to go outside to catch a breeze becuz there are so many cracks & slits & ill-fitting windows! Lots of people see me living in the bad old days, but then I see the fomenting covid crowds & feel blessed with my few simple truths (((HUGS))) Fondly, Margie

"why do i don't need all that crap in my car" he would say, "it's just a way to make money and get us into the repair shop." he wouldn't buy a color tv until the old black & white one died so my brother and i would jiggle the knobs and bang on it in hopes that it would break forcing him to buy a new color one. damn thing just wouldn't break try as we did. i remember riding in the car, sweating bullets and he would say, "ah, just roll down the window" - problem was he drove so slow and almost never went on highways so we never got a good breeze. i'm in agreement that the old days were the good old days especially compared to life now and what's going on. a simple life is a good life ... :)

Such a clever little piece, Pete. Jam packed with nostalgia and smarts! Happy New Year, my patriot friend!
P.S.
Hey, Phillip Rivers is doing pretty good with the Colts! ; )

p.s. tampa bay is doing pretty well with brady and gronk. pats have big problems - first losing season in like twelve years i think. they keep benching cam newton and using stidham but neither can get it done. they have some big decisions to make ... :)
I love reading, writing, music, nature, God and feeling emotion, not necessarily in that order. To me, these things go hand in hand. My favorite writer is Henry David Thoreau. I think he was a geni.. more..
