Much Ado About Something

Much Ado About Something

A Poem by Pete
"

I put a piece of paper under my pillow, and when I could not sleep I wrote in the dark. - Thoreau

40 tips for sleeping during a heat wave (when you don't have AC) - sleepapnea.org

lying in bed
tossing and turning
sweating
can't sleep
it's hot
it's humid

still lying in bed
tossing and turning
sweating
can't sleep
it's hot
it's humid

if i flip the pillow over
maybe it will help
it can't
it won't
so i don't

perhaps if i slip off my boxers
it has to make a difference
it should
it's got to
so i do

still can't sleep
now i've got another problem

besides counting sheep

Author's Note

Pete
“We must learn to reawaken and keep ourselves awake, not by mechanical aids, but by an infinite expectation of the dawn, which does not forsake us even in our soundest sleep. I know of no more encouraging fact than the unquestionable ability of man to elevate his life by a conscious endeavour. It is something to be able to paint a particular picture, or to carve a statue, and so to make a few objects beautiful; but it is far more glorious to carve and paint the very atmosphere and medium through which we look, which morally we can do. To affect the quality of the day, that is the highest of arts.” - Thoreau

Haaaha YOU YOU Pete my smart friend. BELIEVE me nothing helps when this mind keeps rolling with thoughts and thinking until it is released. and WE poets, writers, artist... most of the time it's something that MUST be written and created. revelation, creation, many times come that way, and now we are making something great from this sleepless time.

I hate those moments when my mind won’t shut off. I toss and turn can’t sleep. Trying everything possible only for it not to work.

thanks lol. a little twisted humor goes a long way especially these days ... :)
LOL, I got a good chuckle at the end. Love great simple pieces that make you laugh. I can surely relate to the beginning. Isn't' that just what insomnia is like? Reasoning it out, then disagreeing with self knowing it won't work. Nice job and twist at the end.
