Indulgence

Indulgence

A Poem by Pete

Year of St. Joseph: How to gain an indulgence
The Childhood of Christ, by Gerard van Honthorst
(1592-1656). Public domain

betray me
commit treason
just give me a reason
no matter the season

beat me
beat me down
beat me down to the ground
pulverize me into ash
you'll never get my soul
it's nonnegotiable
it has to be
it's written on glory's old, faded, yellowed, wrinkled scroll

free me
free me from this strife
beat your drum and play your fife
remind me that my name is written in the lamb's book of life
love adds and hate reduces
i'm tired
so tired
of lame excuses

indulge me
expunge me
accuse me
excuse me
lose me
don't bother asking why
it doesn't matter

i was born with an alibi

Woooow...I am astonished by your poem, frankly don't even know where to start.
The picture, and right at the very first stanza it grabs the readers attention, than what follows gets better and better, and is not just beautiful, is elegant, great word choice, it flows amazingly, it finishes perfect....and best of all, it is unique!!!
Congratulations indeed, Pete!!!!
Stay safe!

My name is written in the lambs book. Love this lines and helps tie the first and second half of the poem together.
