Not-So-Sweet Surrender

Not-So-Sweet Surrender

A Poem by Pete
"

It takes two to speak the truth: one to speak, and another to hear. - Thoreau

Waving the White Flag - A Caravan of One

sometimes i choke on my words
other times i can't stop the regurgitation
standing
waiting
pacing
fidgeting
expecting
in this abandoned, derailed station

lying prostate
floating prone
alone
reigning king on this three-legged throne
i wish you could feel what i feel
kneel where i kneel
trying to "write" this ship with an uneven keel

tell me i'm right
show me i'm wrong
pretending to be strong
lotioning my prose before i caress the cold steel
this tiny big deal
rolling this spokeless wheel
churning
burning
learning
yearning
helping me to heal

i take my place in the ranks and salute
kind of astute
sort of resolute
wondering where went the spiritual constitution
praying for absolution
from this human existence
running out of truth and sunshine
with no answers

no solution

"It is not enough that our life is an easy one. We must live on the stretch, retiring to our rest like soldiers on the eve of a battle, looking forward to the strenuous sortie of the morrow." - Thoreau
