The Good Seed

The Good Seed

A Poem by Pete
"

As naturally as the oak bears an acorn and the vine a gourd, man bears a poem, either spoken or done. - Thoreau

with their pointy-topped berets
some unbent
others askew
acorns drop
in a reverent capitulation of unquestionable obedience

whether they take root
or are eaten by the diligent squirrel
they are free
fulfilling a divine purpose
never falling far from the tree
most thinking of them only as nuts

despite their well-sown 'ifs', 'ands' or 'buts'

Author's Note

Pete
“The whole ground of human life seems to some to have been gone over by their predecessors, both the heights and the valleys, and all things to have been cared for.
According to Evelyn, "the wise Solomon prescribed ordinances for the very distances of trees; and the Roman prætors have decided how often you may go into your neighbor's land to gather the acorns which fall on it without trespass, and what share belongs to that neighbor." Hippocrates has even left directions how we should cut our nails; that is, even with the ends of the fingers, neither shorter nor longer. Undoubtedly the very tedium and ennui which presume to have exhausted the variety and the joys of life are as old as Adam. But man's capacities have never been measured; nor are we to judge of what he can do by any precedents, so little has been tried. Whatever have been thy failures hitherto, "be not afflicted, my child, for who shall assign to thee what thou hast left undone?” -- Thoreau

OMG!OMG!OMG! dear Pete I hope You are not tired of me telling You how I adore and appreciate your brilliant talent! here You are standing on another level, how did You in few lines ignite the timeless issue of the good seed and bad seed, the good and evil, here I can see two ways... You are addressing the subject as an outside observer, those good seeds who born without questing, doing their missions without asking, a divine purpose from above, they wouldn't care about what others think of them, and they will stick to the right road (staying not far from the tree), BUT what IF that bad seed inside begins to ask, begin to wonder... what if it revolts and the war inside begins? as humans with unlimited minds and a world full with temptations it can happen, and for those true, pure, genuine and faithful ones... they will struggle and struggle until they win because the "evil" will keep trying and trying to make them kneel and lose their pure faith, that's the whole situation in one sentence.

hopefully I didn't go far this time either, still this is brilliant Pete, completely brilliant!
