"I was awakened in the night to a strain of music dying away, - passing travelers singing. My being was so expanded and infinitely and divinely related for a brief season that I saw how unexhausted, how almost wholly unimproved, was man's capacity for a divine life. When I remembered what a narrow and finite life I should anon awake to!" - Thoreau

I read "He even stood on one leg", and immediately pictured Ian Anderson. A minute later, I saw the music clip and thought, "Well, duh, who else could it have been in reference to?" Now I see that these fine words are dedicated to that amazing group. I just listened to "Thick as a Brick" a few days ago, for the umpteenth time. Everyone seems to know about Ian's flute playing, but his guitar work is second to none. All that cross picking! And Martin Barre is fabulous and very underrated. If I could only ever listen to music from three bands, it would be Genesis, Yes, and Jethro Tull.

lol. although ian is a fine guitar player in his own right, he didn't think that he was good enough.. read morelol. although ian is a fine guitar player in his own right, he didn't think that he was good enough to be lead guitarist. martin is a fantastic guitarist, very underrated. i love all of tull's music. thick as a brick is a classic that i always find myself going back to. interesting factoid - tony iommi (lead guitarist of black sabbath) started with tull but left after a very short time - not his cup of tea i guess - he preferred darker, more ominous riffs. back to ian - i think he is a wonderful poet, songwriter and music arranger. and oh that classic stance with one leg bent whilst playing the flute - simply terrific and most memorable. great share. thank you so much s.d. ... :)

I love reading, writing, music, nature, God and feeling emotion, not necessarily in that order. To me, these things go hand in hand. My favorite writer is Henry David Thoreau. I think he was a geni.. more..
