this is what it sounds like to be alone
this is what it sounds like in the rhymezone when no one's home
this is what it sounds like to be a clone or a drone
this is what it sounds like sitting on the throne
this is what it sounds like sitting naked with your phone

this is what it sounds like when a frozen wheel is spun
this is what it sounds like when you've only just begun
this is what it sounds like when the day is done
this is what it sounds like to laugh at fun
this is what it sounds like counting before one

this is what it sounds like standing at a locked door
this is what it sounds like inside a blocked pore
this is what it sounds like to be a retired w***e
this is what it sounds like to be a windblown spore
this is what it sounds like trying to figure out what life is for

this is what it sounds like when you can't start the car
this is what it sounds like when they're closing the bar
this is what it sounds like when near is far
this is what it sounds like to be a powerless czar
this is what it sounds like inside an empty jar

this is what it sounds like after before
this is what it sounds like inside the bottom drawer
this is what it sounds like when you're missing an oar
this is what it sounds like in golf when you forget to yell, "fore"
this

when
there's
no

Author's Note

Pete
“Silence is the universal refuge, the sequel to all dull discourses and all foolish acts, a balm to our every chagrin, as welcome after satiety as after disappointment; that background which the painter may not daub, be he master or bungler, and which, however awkward a figure we may have made in the foreground, remains ever our inviolable asylum, where no indignity can assail, no personality can disturb us.” - Thoreau

thanks for saying so r. j. happy holidays ... :)
A very dynamic piece of poetry Pete. I imagine it as spoken word and how an audience may react to it. I feel it's very in your face and trying to shake the reader from their droning slumber of reality. It's strong and a nice piece of poetry.

So I was drawn by the title cuz I have a poem with the same title but they are nothing alike. I enjoyed this, the redundant lines bring noise to the silence and I like it and the touches of humor win me over.
