Full Moon on the Bayou by JC Findley

somewhere down in the swamps of nowhere
moon shinin'
dogs croonin'
crawfish boilin'
beer ice cold
it was dark and he wore sunglasses

music tore through the night like a serrated knife
my foot was a-tappin'
granny's chair was a-rockin'
"why do they have to make all that infernal noise with those gol dern 'lectric twangers", she inquired
because,
"boys will be boys
it's independence day
goddamn"  i replied

Author's Note

Pete
"I enter a swamp as a sacred place, a sanctum sanctorum… I seemed to have reached a new world, so wild a place… far away from human society. What's the need of visiting far-off mountains and bogs, if a half-hour's walk will carry me into such wildness and novelty.” - Thoreau
