The Final Bend

The Final Bend

The View That Everybody Goes to Heaven | Gene Veith

spit
drool
try to act cool
get up and play the fool

we laugh
we cry
we live
we die
changing our diapers in the noonday sky

the morning dews
the evening does
the day pushes
the night shoves

the baby goo-goo's
the old man gaga's
forever merged in fragile eternity
as god maintains a seemingly aloof taciturnity

there is a mathematical precision in the lonely cadence of time
both frozen and thawed
dancing both erect and low under the limbo stick of this life
until we sink into an unwitting end
not knowing what awaits us

around the final bend

I am an old man, and I assure you I have never said "gaga" even once.
