i never knew who i really was
what i was and wasn't capable of
the depth and shallowness of my faith
the longings in my flesh
the need to refresh
the pillar in my life of a baby born in a creche

no, i knew nothing of myself
until the wheels came off
afraid of crouping a covid cough
stranger in a dark city's scoff
served only its twisted, incendiary molotov
forced to drink only from that baby's trough
