That's Not That

That's Not That

A Poem by Pete
"

Rather than love, than money, than fame, give me truth. - Thoreau

"

round and round
twirling ballerina without leotards or legs
ocean of beer without any kegs

tilted mirror staring back at me
marching in an endless army without knowing how to be all i can be

preaching truth whilst harboring lies
afraid of living because everything dies

snowing rain and raining snow
stark reminder of how much i still don't know

only able to dance when no one is looking
standing in handcuffs before the laughing judge at an unfair, cruel booking

straight to and from the soul in a sneak attack
truth can be beautiful and liberating
ugly and stigmatizing
magic show without a curtain, handkerchief, rabbit or hat
if earth is a sphere how come it always looks flat?
not this is but that's not that

Author's Note

Pete
"To some extent, mythology is only the most ancient history and biography. So far from being false or fabulous in the common sense, it contains only enduring and essential truth, the I and you, the here and there, the now and then, being omitted. Either time or rare wisdom writes it." - Thoreau
