Great, Fallen, Wailing Wall

Great, Fallen, Wailing Wall

A Poem by Pete
"

The walls that fence our fields, as well as modern Rome, and not less the Parthenon itself, are all built of ruins. - Thoreau

How Old is the Great Wall of China? - WorldAtlas

to be fair
my life is there
somewhere
along with nimbleness and lost hair

mordantly finer and finer
stacked like a christmas container on a misguided, cargo, ocean liner
thicker than thick but alone
if i only could remember which stone
pride cometh before the fall
for the great, fallen,, wailing wall
of china

Author's Note

Pete
"As for your high towers and monuments, there was a crazy fellow once in this town who undertook to dig through to China, and he got so far that, as he said, he heard the Chinese pots and kettles rattle; but I think that I shall not go out of my way to admire the hole which he made." - Thoreau
