Where Violins Weep

Where Violins Weep

A Poem by Pete
"

Such is beauty ever,-neither here nor there, now nor then,-neither in Rome nor in Athens, but wherever there is a soul to admire. - Thoreau

in jagged youth i drew you in a young heart's lucullan crayon
now with spent age i cling to a vision of your eternal, remembered beauty
kiss me hard
hug me long
play the lost notes of a minstrel's melancholy song
in washed sand castles and ivory towers
forgotten in faded years, remembered in dire hours
as weeds wither and the placard of our song flowers
as bellowing thunder claps and whispering rain showers
in a place where forever is short and now is long
show me what cratered time and cavernous hearts are for
at least until my days are no more
tell my why folded hands and bent knees pray
assure me that tomorrow won't be just another cloudy day
here, lost in the fray

where violins weep as they play

"You cannot perceive beauty but with a serene mind. The perception of beauty is a moral test. Glances of true beauty can be seen in the faces of those who live in true meekness." - Thoreau

Absolutely beautiful Pete. This is true love poetry that feels real, unlike some flowery messes I have read where it seems someone has attempted a reincarnation of Shelly or Byron, this one was written by a poet, a true, real poet. I am in awe of your talent my friend.

Love your posted artwork Pete to accompany your words. Well, if this is a memory of yours from youth, all I can say is what a fantastic impression she left on you. Inspirational writing.

Lovely poetry Pete:)
Great stuff, Pete. The rhyme and alliteration work well together in this and the vision is one of eloquence and nostalgic romance. I very much enjoyed the read. F.

Beautiful write

‘ kiss me hard
hug me long
play the lost notes of a minstrel's melancholy song’

And then the last line exquisitely finishes the poem
