Unexpected SongA Poem by PeteWhen I hear music, I fear no danger. I am invulnerable. I see no foe. I am related to the earliest times, and to the latest. - Thoreaucrossed eyes, bow legs and intersecting knees i look down upon the cracks in the sidewalk and up to the grandeur of unseparated trees it's late afternoon, not early dawni could be right and i might be wrong i thought weak but went with strong my soul may be in turmoil but bananas aren't only for king kong life is short and my tether long so i think i'll play another song i'd like to stay but i've got to go i need a new place to store my woe i hear the doorbell's insane chant - ding dong, ding dong it must be difficult to stuff a deep, long life into a skimpy thong i must be right 'cuz i'm seldom wrong i clasp my fingers together like a church steeple opening the doors and wondering what happened to all of the people never mind, have a nice day as i remember the drums and chant to this life's unexpected song okay ... .
