Don't Feed The Birds

Don't Feed The Birds

A Poem by Pete
"

Shall I not rejoice also at the abundance of the weeds whose seeds are the granary of the birds? - Thoreau

"
OPINION: Don't feed the birds!

inhale the sweet, flowery fragrance of my words
watch out for weeds, reeds and high-elevation nose bleeds
remember to cover seeds
careful with your driving speeds and evil deeds
when we dance, i'm the one who leads
always pray in thirds
you need milk to make curds
get a pocket protector if you're going to hang around with nerds
most importantly, don't feed the birds

Author's Note

Pete
"It would be well, perhaps, if we were to spend more of our days and nights without any obstruction between us and the celestial bodies, if the poet did not speak so much from under a roof, or the saint dwell there so long. Birds do not sing in caves, nor do doves cherish their innocence in dovecots." - Thoreau

Have a feeling that you enjoyed writing the above, Pete! There seems to be a smile at the end of each line, as if you had sat back, read carefully. Then, grinned at a renewed acknowledgement of what Thoreau hoped someone/YOU would value for the now and ever after. His last sentence above is so worth remembering. Perhaps make time for self and thoughts higher than the day to day? Perhaps forget self and think 'higher' full stop?
