Lunar Crooner

Lunar Crooner

A Poem by Pete
"

I have, as it were, my own sun and moon and stars, and a little world all to myself. - Thoreau

"
apocalyptic' super blood moon

who shot the moon
tonight it's blood red
reaching through darkness, it tucks me to bed
lighting the way and holding me tight
always there, no matter how slight
a slice of melon, it changes it size
unlike the sun, has no need to rise
never too heavy for heaven's skies
no need to diet to shrink thunder thighs

bending down to kiss the tops of tall trees
some say that it's made of tasty, green cheese
stalking earth and never asking, "please"
ruling the sea and owning its tide
married to earth as its orbital bride
many a soul's illuminating guide
puffing it's cheeks with a rightly sense of pride
standing time, tried and true
rarely changing its fine complexion to blue

Pete
" soon discovered that I was acquainted only with its complexion; and as for the moon, I had seen her only as it were through a crevice in a shutter, occasionally. Why not walk a little way in her light?" - Thoreau

a stellar ode to our goddess, luna. one can not help but look up at the night sky and be taken in awe by her glow. i remember a blood moon rising few years ago. on the way home, it was already dark, commuters were stopping and looking up, staring, some stayed affixed like that for minutes. i stopped too, thinking to myself how much i have taken our moon for granted. she is a celestial body of great significance to us.
